Hello i am sorry for the lack of blog posts in the last couple of months but i have being doing something that has had a really positive impact on my health and well being and i really can't believe it, but i had to concentrate on it and only it until i have conquered it , It's something i have dabbled in on and off for years ,Yoga , Adapted Yoga ,
I started off with just 10 mins a day now i do 50 mins 6 days a week , Whatever my condition, Fibromyalgia as diagnosed or anything they have yet to diagnose Yoga has helped elevate two of my most problematic symptoms that have controlled my life recently, One is the stiffness that has made it almost impossible to do things like cut my toenails , wash my feet and anything like gardening that i had to get down on the floor to do , The other problem was the muscle spasms so severe that they were so painful and paralyzed me from time to time , It all came to ahead when my stiffness got so bad that i was having problems with my toilet needs , The neurologist prescribed some scary drugs , That had instructions, Don't drink , Don't drive and Don't stop taking unless you tell your doctor so i researched alternatives to my two main symptoms and Yoga came up again and again, So i gradually increased the time i did it for , I have to adapt a few of the poses like the dancers pose i cannot get my foot in my hand so i just grab my leggings and it works well for me , Some of the movements i will never be able to do properly but i am happy with what i can do and for the first time in years i can do my gardening without it affecting me and the other things listed above, This is something that i will never give up now , Its made such a fantastic difference with the added bonus of losing inches, So now i am in control and will be back to regular blogging , See you soon xxxx
This is wonderful to read! I tried yoga for a couple of years, but it seemed to make me worse, but perhaps I need to try again.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest in the very start it did make me worse but as i carried on it got easier and easier to do , Now my body craves for it xxx
DeleteWell, I've just bought the DVD you showed as it was nice and cheap, so I will try to remember to report back to you! ;)

DeleteHello Sheila , Thanks , I feel better than i have done in a long time , Eileen xxx
DeleteI hate how doctors always go for the drug treatment first. Exercise in whichever form suits you is so much better for your body and soul. Well done for self managing your condition.
ReplyDeleteThanks Catriona , I am feeling quite well at the moment , Like you said body and soul , Eileen xxx
DeleteBrilliant, I am so pleased for you, I was only thinking the other day I might try yoga as I have health issues, I have had numerous blood tests and xray's and it looks like seeing a neurologist is on the cards for me,anyway glad you are getting better.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Marlene (yes I'm back). xxx
Hello marline , It was the neurologist who prescribed the drugs , I too have to have another MRI and might have to have a ct scan but i am just getting on with it in the meantime , Its not been easy with the yoga some days i have felt sick at the thought of doing it but actually forced myself and now my body craves for it , Hope you get some answers soon , Its so frustrating not knowing , Take care , Eileen xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad! Yoga is brilliant. Although I've done classes for years the Wii Fit yoga exercises are fantastic as the board can detect whether you're properly aligned unlike a teacher can in a busy class. I can really feel a difference if I miss a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteJon's on Diazepam at the moment - the doctor said that the best thing he could have done was to see an osteopath but she's prescribed a week's worth of these evil things to lessen the severity of the pain! xxx
I did lots of yoga in my 20s and managed to get the basics of alignment then and you never forget , Barbra currie is really good at teaching you on Dvd and she constantly tells you not to push yourself to much so i am happy with the video although i think niki might have Wii fit she is not using so if i get fed up i might give it a try , Poor jon , Hope he is on the mend now , The drugs the neurologist prescribed were for spasms and stiffness not for pain but pain killer like what jon is on really help in situations like his in the short term xxx
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled for you, long may it last. I have started some gentle chair aerobics and am amazed how much better exercising makes me feel.
ReplyDeleteYou could do gentle yoga , Its entirely up to you how much or little you do , Eileen x.
DeleteThat is fantastic news. I'm so glad you have found something to help you. I did Yoga for years and loved it then got out of the habit which I now regret. Perhaps I should try it again because I'm getting quite stiff in my joints now :( Well done anyway Eileen xx
ReplyDeleteI would definitely recommend it , I have one day of rest which is the day i do the market , Today ,but i feel so much better at the moment , Eileen
DeleteWonderful news! I've quit eating ice cream and cut back on sugar and notice improvement in my joints.....
ReplyDeleteReally glad for you Rebecca , I have noticed doing yoga has curbed my sugar cravings too, Eileen xxx
DeleteGood news. Well done for seeking an alternative to the doctor's prescription. I often do that if I don't like the sound of any side effects.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is with yoga , It makes you feel more in control and you don't want sweet things so much , Its really weird the way it affects your thinking so now i am slowly loosing the pounds as well as inches , Eileen xxx
