Most of everything i do is very frugal but there are some things that i need help with and this is one of them , My CPAP machine has a water compartment in it that i have to fill with boiled cooled water but it has to be sterilised , I have found the cheapest steriliser at poundland but i wondered if any of you know of a cheaper alternative , It is hard plastic so cannot be immersed in hot water , I have already been told off for needing a new part of my mask in the last month twice as its flimsy plastic and had developed a hole, plus its and almost 2 hour round journey to fetch any parts so i will need to be careful but any ideas would be appreciated.
This weeks food bargains are from sainsubury's
The mincemeat was 45p and the lemon rind amazing 7p. The mincemeat will be saved until next Christmas.
The lemon rind i used some of it with lemon juice and rind i had in the freezer to make a lemon drizzle cake.
I only get reduced items if i am there and they are available , I don't make a special journey , In one of our local papers it says people have been fighting , Have you seen any of this behaviour. The comments button on all blogs at the moment is taking a long while to go through but it does go through so please don't let it put you off

Yummy looking cake, think I might make us a treat later. Sadly I have witnessed people fighting over reduced items and staff being pushed out of the way. I find this behaviour despicable. Many of us are having to be careful with money but there's no excuse for bad manners, as my Gran said "Manners cost nothing". Stay well. Best Wishes Diane C.
ReplyDeleteHello Dianne , I think its disgusting most of the time there is enough to go round too xxx
DeleteI always look over the reduced items when I shop! Often "odd" things that I can't figure out how I'd ever use, but now and then I find things I can use and snatch them up!
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks delicious!
One of the supermarkets reduces the meat to half price in the middle of the day and that's good if i am there at the time xxx
DeleteSome horrible man pushed my trolley out of the way on Sunday, my son usually comes with me to look after the trolley whilst I rummage, but on Sunday he and my husband where busy so it was just me and I didn't enjoy it, up Asda of an evening they are like savages there are a small group who work together and take everthing it's just pure greed I don't know why the staff allow it.
ReplyDeleteOMG what a horrible person , you know what will happen eventually if this carry's on the supermarkets will stop reducing things so they will spoil it for everyone , I worked for Ikea for 5 years and they had a staff sale one year everything was £15.00 all because the boxes were damaged , I had two wardrobes and a four poster bed at the time , It was in the eighties, it was great but staff were buying loads and putting it on ebay so they stopped it , Its the same old story the minority spoiling it for the majority xxx
DeleteMy husband has used a C-PAP for nearly 20 years and was never told it needed to be filled with anything except plain tap water. We make sure the exterior of the water chamber is completely dry before seating the water chamber in place. If the bottom of the water chamber is even just damp, a hole will develop fairly quickly. We're in the US.
ReplyDeleteWishing you well.
Hello Barbara nice of you to comment for the first time , I was told that i could only put boiled cooled water in it , I have had the machine for 8 years now but only recently had the dehumidifier for the last year as it was giving me a very dry nose but if i don't sterilise the chamber it develops a strange smell even though i change the water daily , The only problem i have had is the soft plastic on the mask itself that has developed holes xxx
DeleteAre sterlising tablets any cheaper? The cake looks delicious. It is so sad to think that people are fighting over reduced items. I do wonder if it is desperation or greed.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the the sterilising tablets i never gave them a thought i will have a look at them to see if they are any cheaper , I wondered exactly the same as you in a way i hope its greed and not desperation as its such a sorry state if it is xxx
DeleteOh,ive said on the blogs, our local Tesco is like a rugby scrum.the local Asda is the same too.Same people, same familys pushing and shoving others out the way.I had to nip in last week for my daughter, who was ill and i think id just missed the scrum by about 5 mins.Manage to get greens, celery and veggy ready meal for 1 and 2p!!.Finest tea cakes and pittas 6p.I think these must have been put out when most of them had gone and in another part of the store. There are alot of very greedy people that just want to snatch everything!,Debi,x
ReplyDeleteOMG , i would just walk away i could not be included in that but well done on the remains of the bargains xxx
DeleteIt would be best if the supermarkets put reduced items out at different times of day randomly. My mother told of pushing and shoving at her local Asda because there was a specific time when the items were reduced.
ReplyDeleteOur city provides a free meal once a month at a downtown church hall (which has a kitchen attached). We volunteer to help and I know of one particular woman who comes in with a shopping trolley, she has tupperware containers in it and takes three meals (or more) by filling the containers sneakily and then lining up again for another meal. It drives me crazy but the organizers have decided to say nothing to her. JanF
I agree entirely , Our local Morrison's reduces the meat to half price in the afternoon its much better that way for the supermarkets too as they get more for there stock than reducing it down very low in the end ,I get really angry about volunteers who are in it for themselves , I was a charity shop manager for 12 years and the amount of people who volunteers to see what they can get out of it is high and they give a bad name to the wonderful volunteers who do it for the right reasons , Unfortunately this applies to jumble sales too xxx
DeleteSorry, I confused you. The woman who brings the Tupperware and sneaks extra meals out is not a volunteer. She is supposed to have one meal and second helpings when available IN the church hall, not take out food. The volunteers are not greedy. JanF
DeleteMy husband has had a CPAP machine for some years now and as he is over 65 he is entitled to free prescriptions so our doctor prescribes sterilised water for him. He was told it has to be sterile water. Your cake looks delicious and your bargains good. Last year after Christmas my daughter found mincemeat in SB for 10p a jar so got me several jars but none this year.
ReplyDeleteHello i was told i can used cooled boiled water so i am lucky i dont have to use sterilised water that i would have to pay for or collect from the chemist , I bet that is heavy to carry , That was a bargain with the mincemeat , I bake mince pies all through the year si if i see any reduced i always buy it xxx
DeleteHi from Australia. Our supermarkets mostly donates fruit, vegetables and baked products to charities. I think works great,no people with high salaries getting bargains. If I find heavily reduced toiletries I purchased dozens,I take them and donate to a very isolated town in my state. I visit my girlfriend once a month and take wonderful gifts to charities. I read your blog regularly.
ReplyDeleteHello Hope , Thanks for reading my blog you are a very kind person doing what you do , some of our supermarkets are donating a lot of perishables to charities now too xxx
