We went to the stroke clinic yesterday after being told at A&E that is was a TIA , now the consultant says the episodes that he had were not strokes because the slurring of his speech and problem with the use of his leg were the only symptoms and if it was a TIA he would have not recovered so quickly so what's causing it , Possibilities are the rare migraines that were mentioned at the other hospital , Overactivity of the brain and it could also be linked to his epilepsy , This has been controlled by drugs for well over 20 years even though its grand mall , The consultant is sending him for a brain mri so we should have some answers ,He has told that he can now drive , The strange thing was all the episodes started in the morning about 10.30 so we are not travelling until the afternoon , So we are really happy it's not a TIA but still don't have any concrete answers.
One another note please be aware there is a telephone scam going about , This morning i had a telephone scam that was supposed to be from BT , we are with virgin thats why i knew it was a scam , It was telling us that out internet was going to be permanently disconnected and to press something to continue , which is when i put the phone down , A few minutes later another call came saying out of area so its coming from a call centre out of the uk this one asked us to listen to an sms text which i didn't , then it rang again which i then ignored.

Hi Shabby
ReplyDeleteSo glad not a TIA. It could be your husband's body is on the change again and his system is not coping with it. I have epilepsy only had the petit mal to start with when was seven but they gave me some medication which triggered a grand mal and I have had what they call the break through grand mal attacks sporadically ever since. The Doctors used to say when I was first diagnosed that every seven years your body changes - this seems to have an effect on me. My Grand mals when I have them tend to be first thing of a morning when the blood sugar is low so make sure that he has breakfast. It is a possibility that your husband is having a different kind of ep attack and that he is remaining conscious - it can happen. I had a friend whose attacks manifested in this fashion and you had to talk to her and keep her calm throughout the process as they used to cause her great distress but she never went out and was conscious throughout. She used to say that they were like living bad dreams. She used to get bad migraines with the epilepsy as do I. I find that the only way to get rid of them is to go to bed in the dark and just rest if not sleep. Have had the migraines since was seven and was told that they are part and parcel of the epilepsy. I always wanted to drive and went as long as 12 years without an attack - as soon as I have had driving lessons I have had a re-appearance of the attacks then we go another longish period and off we go again. I have therefore come to the conclusion that I will never drive which at least means to me that other people will be safe. Hope you get to the bottom of it. Pattypan xx
Thanks patricia , It really makes sense everything you are saying , On the occasions he had the episodes he had not had breakfast , I have seen him in his fits years ago , He was unconscious and very out of it when he came so if it is that it could have bought it on , Next year i am hoping to finally complete my learning to drive ,He does suffer with migraines i have always thought it was the way of his body fighting of a fit but with these two attacks he had no pain in his head at all xxx
ReplyDeleteGood that they weren't TIAs, but frustrating that you have to wait yet again for a proper diagnosis.
ReplyDeleteIt's still a bit worrying but we have to go with what they say at the moment xxx
DeleteIt's horribly scary when you don't know what is wrong so I hope the doctors can get to the bottom of it and get your hubby on the right treatment.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you both-x-
Thanks Sheila , We are feeling a bit more relaxed at the moment , Hope it continues xxx
DeleteSending good thoughts, prayers and pixie dust for your husband. Not knowing what is happening with or understanding the changes in our bodies can be terrifying.
ReplyDeleteIn the U.S.--and in some areas more than others--we have had telephone scams for decades. They declined for a bit when so many people transitioned from land lines to cellular, but have resurfaced on cell phoned in force over the past five years or so. One of my favourites to date is a very authoritative voice announcing that the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) has determined that I owe back taxes and nasty things will happen if I do not call immediately. One of the nasty things is "the local cops will arrest you within three days..." The local COPS? Good grief! Sounded pretty official up to that point!
Please take care of yourself while caring for your DH. :-)
Thanks Tajia , There are so many scams , What a nightmare , I will try to look after myself xx
DeleteThis exactly what happened to me, first they said it might be a TIA, then as I got worse they said a stroke. The CT showed nothing, but the clever lady doctor said MRI and there was the stroke and damage with lesions. Glad your hubby is having an MRI, keep your chins up. Love Andie xxx
ReplyDeleteOMG Andie , Thanks for my blogger friends so many coincidences , hopefully we will have answers after the mri , Thanks Andie , Hope you are ok now ,Eileen xxx
DeleteMy goodness what a scare, hopefully a diagnosis will be forthcoming after the MRI. Sending you a hug, stay strong.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much we only have just over a week for the scan , Fingers crossed xx
DeleteDear Eileen,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your answer and yes, I am much better now. There is life after stroke thanks to warfarin and determination. Also a good partner helps and I am sure you will be there all the way. Apart from a little weakness and it is a little I am back to normal. Who knows why these things happen but in my case it brought to light a blood disorder which I did not know about. It is rare and a lot of the doctors just look at me when I tell them what it is but I have it by the throat now. Love Andie xxx
Hello Andie , Glad you are ok now , we only have just over a week to wait now for the sacn xxx
