The first jumble sale of the New Year

Some people get excited about going shopping for clothes and household items Others get excited about going to the cinema or days out ,
I get really get  Excited about  Jumble Sales and car boots , Especially in the new year as there have been none since the beginning of December.

Today's Jumble sale is  usually only good for clothes as they have a Dealer in before the jumble starts.  But was lucky enough to get this tapestry vanity case complete with keys  and original label for £1.00 and an oil on board signed painting for 50p

Some brand new books for 50p each to sell.

Today's frugal  bake is minced beef and onion pie I like to share my bakes if i remember.

In the beginning of my blog i used to do this all the while ,
One of the blog posts i did was a step by step blog on how to make good pastry as this is my speciality  ,
Its  good to share as it triggers thoughts in other bloggers out there and influences there blog posts.  So today's bake uses my pastry skill.
The minced beef i used was from three packs i bought reduced to £1.89 each pack

I dry fried it initially with onions, separated it into three portions each pack so i had nine portions in the freezer and used the scraps of pastry out of the freezer that was saved until there is enough to make something,I class this as free pastry as its already been costed in the original bake,so the pie cost £1.00 and there are four portion's at 25p each plus the cost of the veg and gravy.

I rolled it out using wholemeal flour to add extra crunch.

  1. Looks lovely Shabby, Happy New Year. I am very fond of pies of all sorts. Mum used to give them us a lot they are very filling and very tender. Nice to see you got some lovely finds as well. Makes it all worth it. I love car boots and auctions as well. I also like rootling around Charity shops as well. These days I do not get round to the auctions or the car boots as my sister in law used to take me and OH is not quite into this. Unfortunately my sister in law died before Christmas so my partner in crime is no longer around. There is something very special about tracking something down and "finding it" at the car boots. I do miss them very much. Dinner looks delicious. Take care and catch you soon. Pattypan xx

  6. I love the tapestry bag. Perfect for pretty storage. I really miss car boot sales at this time of the year and jumble sales seem few and far between so I really enjoyed seeing your finds. Jane x

  7. Hi there, your pie reminds me of when I used to cook for the children. One day I made a huge mince pie and used half for dinner eked out with lots of mash and vegetables. With the little bit of pastry I made a small apple pie for pudding. Having finished the meal I put half of the mince pie away to have with chips the day after. There was a tiny piece of apple pie left and my children asked if they could finish the pie. Thinking they meant the little piece of apple pie I said they could, needless to say when I looked around they had gobbled the half of mince pie. Greedy lot, they were always good eaters so I should not groan. It is funny what starts memories going around. I also love the little case, all the girls used to take one like that with their dance shoes in, I always wanted one but never had one. So glad you are able to pop around the charity shops I love to browse and it is great when you spot a bargain. Happy New Year. Love Andie xxx

  9. Sadly the down side of living on this Island is the lack of jumble sales and car boot sales. I do miss them. However, I do enjoy a mooch around the charity shops here. Your meal looks delicious.
