Better late than never

We finished the living room completely a few months ago apart from the wall gallery that i really want but have decided for various reasons not to go ahead , The main one is we want to move to a bungalow  and have started the processes of doing that  , so here are the pictures of my completed living room complete with more comfortable ( not so low sofa) and rise and recline chair.

All done on an extremely tight budget , Buying from jumble sales using what we have and thrifted new purchases.

Here are some of my latest bargains.

The bedroom pictures will be here soon.

  1. The room is so quaint.I'd happily spend full days curled up with a book and a cup in there. I would love the cup to be one of the pastel teacup sets. Gorgeous.

  2. Hi Shabbi it looks lovely. Especially like the treatment that you have given to the mantel piece. Is it actually lace, a stencil or wallpaper. With the mirror in the middle looks really lovely. I know your previous sofa was too low but I did like what you did to it. Hopefully a bungalow will be better for you - but does that mean downsizing again. I hope not for your sake especially with all your lovely bits and bobs. Is the rise and fall chair in for a makeover also or is that to wait for the new move. Hope you are taking the fireplace as that is stunning too.

Take care - look forward to the photos of the bedroom.

  3. Hello Patricia thanks , The fireplace treatment is just a roll of wallpaper from b & q , The sofa we have replaced was the leather one we had that was too low for the pink striped IKEA one , I sold the leather for £200 so the IKEA one only cost me £95 , we will be sticking it out for a nice bungalow not any smaller than this we are happy here at the moment but are thinking long term it might take a couple of years for the right one to come along , It might take a couple of months we dont know , The rise and fall hair is new its dosent look it in the picture we have only had it about four months , Thats staying the way it is it cost to much money to mess about with , Its the most expensive thing in the room at £600 but its really important for Dave the patchwork sofa is still in the room its in the bay , Not sure about the fireplace yet as there was one in here when we moved and i sold it lol xxx

  4. Hi Shabby

Sorry thought you had sold the one you did up - Apologies about the new chair - I am so used to you finding new to you and then you doing something with it. Fooled us all. You room looks lovey and cosy and very "cottagey". You have some lovely ideas. The Pink striped one goes well - very eclectic. Look on Ebay - especially the charity shop sites. The other week I spotted a wrought iron log basket for £5. Often you can find something there either new or new to you far cheaper. The reason I know is that I have been looking for a log burner for here but don't think the Landlord will let us although am going to run it by him - too much trouble with the chimneys - which have disconnected gas fires in them. Lovely to see you posting again. Take care. Pattypan x

  5. Ours is mock , Its electric as our landlord would not allow either You can get the pipe to make it look authentic from B & Q , we dont use the fire even in the winter as the heating is enough , Just hoping that the new home will be just as warm xxxx

  6. I think that pink and green scheme is utterly charming (well, I would! We've just decorated our bedroom with Farrow & Bone paint for the walls in a shade called Bone which is actually a lovely shade of green ... well, it is to me!) with cream and pink accents, and floral curtains, so small wonder I love this room! And you have the right amount of 'stuff' in it ... it feels fresh and inviting and yet there are lots of pretty things to look at, and yet not so many they are overpowering. Thereby hangs the secret of interior design - making something interesting without making it feel like a museum or a display in an antiques/collectable shops! I am now looking forward to seeing the bedroom pix.
PS We found some lovely toile de jouy, pale green and white, paper in B&Q, a roll in the reduced bin, and it has been ideal with which to line all the drawers in the bedroom.

    3. We live in a house built in 1985 and the kitchen is original so 31 years old and ditto the bathrooms. Because coloured suites were popular then and if we'd had white it would've cost us an arm and a leg extra, we opted for a colour called Champagne (a sort of cream.) We actually like it and as we needed to decorate our downstairs shower room we opted for toile de jouy wallpaper in a similar colour with a pattern rather like feathers drawn in Indian ink (plus plain champagne coloured tiles for the shower and behind the basin) and it looks great. It also looks like the Champagne-coloured suite is meant to be there! I always believe in working around what you have and yes, toile can be expensive, but for this little room we needed just 4 rolls, and it was cheaper than ripping out the suite (they're not expensive, but plumbing work is!)
I now look forward to more photos from your lovely home.
